1. Determine where you are right now. Are you or your band ready to go? Or, do you need musicians? Original
songs? Gigs? Money? Promotion? Management? Etc.
2. Find the appropriate UMO Music Menu item that provides the solution you
need.
3. Rehearse like crazy to get your music as good as it can be, at this
time. Face facts, no one's music will ever be perfect so don't waste time waiting
for perfection to set in. Make sure your music is tight, your lyrics are
reasonable and your singing and playing are on key and start playing in front
of an audience right now.
4. Set audience expectations. Go to UMO and post your Bio (and your music if you have originals).
Your Bio (and your music) helps to set an audience’s expectations. Audiences
come to see live performances for many reasons but primarily to be entertained
with music and live shows they will enjoy. There is an audience out there for
almost everything you can imagine. If you set your audiences expectations
accurately, a successful show is almost guaranteed.
6. Get gigs as soon as possible. Go to UMO to find Showcases, Clubs, and Events, Open Mics and other
places to play in front of a live audience. The quickest way to improve your
music and live performance is through repeated performances in front of
different audiences. The immediate feedback helps you determine which music is
a "keeper" and what needs to be discarded.
7. Promote! Promote! Promote! Advertise your gigs. Go to UMO and post all of your upcoming gigs and
generate your flyers and mini-posters! If people don't know where and when you
are playing, they can't come see you no matter how great your music is.
8. Get ready to record your CD. You will need "product" and CD's
are the current product technology for standard. Although at the time of this
writing, Digital Downloads are starting to be utilized.
9. Use UMO to find a Distributor for your CD or a Download service if you
will be using Digital Downloads.
10. If you haven't yet done so, consider putting a 1 to 3 music samples on
UMO so that people can see if they like your music. This will help sell CD's
and Show tickets.
Remember this is only the beginning . . .
